New SELINA-related publication on monitoring woody landscape features in rural landscapes
A new scientific publication, ‘Monitoring woody landscape features in Dutch rural landscapes’, was published in the Ecological Indicators journal. The study was authored by SELINA partners from Wageningen University & Research (Earth Systems and Global Change Group) and the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency.
The publication analyses changes in woody landscape features, such as hedgerows and tree lines, across Dutch rural landscapes between 2011 and 2021. These features are essential for farmland biodiversity and ecosystem services.
The study highlights the importance of improving monitoring methods. Integrating Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data with ecosystem accounting can help detect features not included in existing datasets and improve tracking of ecosystem extent and condition. This supports better policy evaluation, biodiversity protection, and landscape management.
The publication is available as part of the SELINA Zenodo community, ensuring open access to SELINA-supported scientific outputs.
