Linking ecosystem condition indicators to ecosystem services - a new SELINA publication

A new scientific publication, “Towards Integrated Ecosystem Assessments: A literature review on linking ecosystem condition indicators to ecosystem services”, was published in the One Ecosystem journal with contributions from SELINA partners and several other research institutions across Europe.

The publication highlights the importance of integrating ecosystem condition indicators into ecosystem service assessments and shows that many assessments still rely on land-use data, which may not accurately reflect ecosystem quality or functioning. Key gaps are also identified, including uneven coverage across ecosystem types and the need for clearer and more consistent indicator frameworks.

Strengthening the use of ecosystem condition indicators can improve ecosystem assessments, support conservation and restoration efforts, and enable more reliable and evidence-based policy and management decisions.

The publication is available as part of the SELINA Zenodo community, ensuring open access to SELINA-supported scientific outputs.
